Curriculum Planning

The Kavery Engineering College was established in the year 2006 by a trust of philanthropists with a view of disseminating technical and scientific knowledge to the students of rural areas. Institute is affiliated to Anna University to offer UG and PG programmes in Engineering and Technology.

Academic calendar

Being an affiliated college of the Anna University, The Kavery Engineering College follows the Academic Calendar issued by the University every year. It clearly delineates a schedule for teaching, examination and semester break that is strictly followed by the college to ensure smooth and efficient functioning of its teaching and administrative processes. Within the same framework, the college also prepares its own calendar of events and activities before the commencement of the academic session and the same is communicated to all. For transparency of functioning, both the University and the college academic calendars are placed on the college website. All the aforementioned information is reinforced during the collegiate and departmental orientation of new students at the beginning of academic session.

Project work, field work and presentation components of the syllabus and assessment are arranged keeping in mind the pre-planned academic calendars.

Teaching Plan

We have a time table committee that prepares a central class wise time table at the beginning of every academic year and communicated to all the departments. The departmental time table is finalized by the head of the respective department for the faculty members at the beginning of the term. It is also displayed on the notice board for the students. Preparation of central time table for practical is prepared by all heads of departments. The schedule and size for department-wise batches of practical is determined through departmental meetings. The Teaching plan is prepared by individual teachers, verified by the Head of the department and then Principal before implementation. Faculty members are using social media for important instructions given to students regarding timetable, academic activity study material etc. faculty use QR codes, E-wallpapers & other ICT tools.

Academic Review Meeting

The Principal also conducts meetings with the Class incharges and Head of the Departments from individual Departments, and entire Staff including non-teaching to ensure smooth implementation of the activities as scheduled. The Class Committee meetings are conducted periodically, where the student representatives express their difficulties in academic areas.

Teaching Methods

Teaching methods are used for enhancing learning experiences of students. 95% of the teachers make use of ICT tools. Also Google classrooms, PPT presentations and online web resources are used in their teaching.

Course study material such as lecture notes, question bank, lab manuals are prepared by the faculty members for their subject and are focusing on the outcome based education and Bloom’s Taxonomy. Hard copies of question bank and lab manual are also provided to the students.

Remedial classes

The attendance and performance of the students are monitored by the Class advisors, Student Counselors and HODs. The student’s performance and attendance is communicated to the parents regularly and any issues identified with the students are counseled in presence of the parents and corrective measures are taken. Slow learners and for students having average learning capability, remedial classes are conducted after the college working hours.

Internal Assessment Test

For the purpose of conducting Internal assessment test, faculty prepare their schedule of teaching, class tests and assignments in accordance with their allotted time table keeping the academic calendar and planned co-curricular activities of the college in mind. The students are informed well in advance about the deadline for assignment submissions, dates for class tests and presentations, as well as their final internal assessment marks. Criteria for assessment are also shared with the students. They are encouraged to seek guidance from teachers during the designated tutorial slots or the latter’s free time.

Industrial visit

Industrial Visits are organized regularly to give the real time exposure to the students about how the organizations operate. The batches of 40-60 students are formed and sent to the location of the industry to see the ongoing work, machinery, work –culture, etc. Students are accompanied by a faculty member and one Mentor/Trainer is also assigned from the industry to instruct students about the company, its projects, machinery, work-culture, etc

Placement Cell

The college offers value added courses like Soft Skill Development, Pre-placement Training, Verbal and Logical Skills, etc.
