Gender Sensitization
To create increased awareness among students towards gender issues, seminar on gender sensitization is organized for students of engineering and is effectively implemented by the college. The main aim of gender sensitization program is to bring definite orientation in individual’s thinking, practices and approach of gender and their issues.
Awareness programmes will deal with issues pertaining to the relationship between men and women, caste, declining sex ratio, struggles with discrimination, sexual harassment, new forums for justice, and eve-teasing. Through accounts of studies and movements, the course also hopes to expose students to new laws on gender issues.
Women empowerment cell is also formed to look after the welfare of all girl students. Gender equity is attained by conducting programs like seminars, debates, group discussions for girls on a single platform. It also organizes various workshops, seminar and other related programs to emphasize Gender equality.
Professional Ethics and Human values
In view of promoting the professional ethics among the engineering graduates the Anna University has introduced professional ethics as an elective course. Even though it is in academic curriculum the college takes efforts for integration of ethical and human values through extracurricular activities such personality development, yoga, meditation etc.
The institute is organizing various programmes under NSS and YRC to inculcate human values among students. Different activities like guest lecture, seminar and workshops relating to the professional ethics and human values have been organized for students.
Apart from this, industrial visits are arranged for the students to know about the work culture and practices in the industries. Every year, in summer and winter vacation, the students are encouraged to undergo internship and training in leading organizations. This facilitates the students to get an exposure to a professional environment by solving problems and designing solution professionally.
Environment and Sustainability
Environmental Studies is an interdisciplinary course in all the undergraduate programmes. Apart from this, courses on ‘Environment Impact Assessment’, ‘Environment Quality Monitoring’, ‘Environmental Audit’ and several others address the issues related to Environment and Sustainability. These courses enlighten the students on how to conserve our environment in the face of increasing human population growth and anthropogenic activities that degrade natural resources and ecosystems.
Our college is involved in green auditing of the campus every year and keep track of carbon footprint of the campus. As part of the course, events such as Water Conservation Week and Energy Conservation Week are organized every year so as to sensitize the campus on the sustainable developmental strategies.
National Service Scheme
The college also has a vibrant NSS wing which encourages students to participation in programmes like as Tree Plantation, Blood Donation, Literacy Awareness Programs, Road Shows, Adult Education, Health and Cleanliness Awareness, International Yoga Day, rehabilitation services during natural calamities etc. Seminars / Workshops on various societal issues, Personality Development etc. are conducted to instil values and for the benefit of students.
