Innovative Teaching and Training for rural student’s to develop Employability skills.

Objectives of the Practice

• To train the students on life skills, professional, ethical attitude, teamwork and good communication skills to improve their performances to build a career.
• To develop positive environment for students and teachers to share innovative ideas to meet challenges.
• Through personality development to empower students to upgrade and to use their talents, interests and passions.

The Context

• TKEC is located in Mecheri town Panchayat. The locals are economically underprivileged.
• The majority of students live below poverty line
• TKEC aims to boost entrepreneurship, creativity, productivity, and boost employment.
• Students from this background need additional training to acquire the skills expected to compete.
• Education is the fundamental right of every citizen because it promotes empowerment and ensures development benefits. Education can be used for the upliftment of society.


The Practice:

• Soft skills, Language and communication skills, Life skills (Yoga, physical fitness, health and hygiene) ICT/computing skills/ training programme
• The personality development programme has been conducted in the college and mandatory for every year students. Trainers from various organizations gives training to the students which includes Communication, Time Management Strategies, Body Language & Etiquette, Goal Setting, Presentation Skills, Develop Confidence, Leadership Skills, Stress Management, Master Your Mind, Work Life Balance, and Decision Making Skills.
• Students have been allowed to attend the internship program during vacation to develop their interaction towards industry.
• Industrial visits have been arranged by the institution for all students every year to make them to explore the industrial activities.
• Employment skills training programme and value added programmes.
• Classrooms and laboratories are ICT Enabled.
• Cutting edge technology based labs and Virtual Lab. • Multiple choice questions based online tests for aptitude building.
• The Institute provides financial assistance to faculty members to attend national and International conferences.

• The skill development strategy which is outlined above has proven to be very effective and more students are trained and are placed in many reputed companies.
• Students develop a variety of skills; on top of it a strong sense of self-confidence in handling tough situations and challenges gets boosted.
• The success rate in placement and higher education has been increased considerably year by year.

Problems Encountered and resource required

• Some of the students, though capable, couldn't afford the training due to their economic background where, the college supports those students by extending financial assistance.
• Retention of the experienced faculty members.
• Decline in inclination towards technical education
• To provide training along with university curriculum is tough task due to extensive syllabus,
• Lack of awareness of the students about changing industrial environment and needs.
• Lack of motivation toward entrepreneurship.
Notes (optional) • As far as required resources are concerned, the affiliating university should incorporate training on soft skills, employability skills and entrepreneurial programmes in its curriculum.
• Professional trainers for conducting the training resources to conduct the training i.e., video lectures on topics in communication and aptitude, on-line exams for practice purpose, company specific mock tests, etc.

"Not me but you" “SERVICE TO SOCIETY" is the NSS and YRC's and Rotaract motto or catchphrase. It emphasizes how a person's welfare ultimately depends on the welfare of society as a whole.

Title of the Practice 2

• National service scheme (NSS), Youth Red Cross (YRC) and rotaract Towards launching social awareness and upliftment campaign.
• To understand the Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independent, Unity and Voluntary Service.
• To identify the needs and problems of the community with a sense of social and civic responsibility.
• To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems.
• To acquire leadership qualities

The Context

• The NSS, YRC and Rotaract unit of the College actively participated in various programmes.
• The volunteers gained experience working with rural residents to spread awareness of blood donation, good hygiene and illness prevention.

The Practice

• Planning of community activities each academic year.
• NSS unit, YRC unit and Rotaract carry out the community services activities with fullest cooperation of faculty and student members of the college.
• Service is provided to the public and parents at occasions when and wherever possible.

• Volunteers carry out the solid waste management training, international white cane day contribution, Tree plantation, Green India Mission, Drug awareness, Independence Day rally, Free Eye Camp, Clean India Mission, Safety Measures for Corona, Health Hygiene for Municipality Women Workers, COVID 19 Vaccination Camp for Public, Dengue Awareness, Guidance programme on facing public examination, Programme on Energy Conservation, Swachh Bharath Awareness Mission, Rain Water Harvesting and Awareness on higher education, Aids awareness rally.

Evidence of Success

• The main outcome of the NSS, YRC and Rotaract club (NYR) is that it helps the students to gain a democratic attitude along with the confidence to become leaders and learn the social problems faced by villagers.
• NYR helps in awareness on higher education rally Programme to aid rural student perceptions on higher education.
• The role of community participation in prevention of dengue fever, promotion of Clean Campus which promotes hygiene, Census of population and housing, Road safety awareness, Rally for Rivers are some events.
• Created awareness about the importance of voting among people.

Problems Encountered

• One of the major problems is that the goals and objectives of the NSS, YRC and Rotaract are people have high expectations and at the same time, volunteers do not have all resources at their disposal.
• There should be strong selection test conducted while selecting the students volunteer for the NSS Camp. Importance of NSS activities should be conducted for the parents of NSS volunteers.
• Pre awareness program about the activities to be performed, before performing the activities and students should study the village problems before visiting the NSS Camp.
• Sufficient fund should be given by higher authority for successful conduction of the activities and University person should visit the camp location.

Notes (optional)

• The University should give a feedback on the survey report submitted by the colleges.
• Many students join NSS, YRC and Rotaract because of having interest in social work, some students join to know about NSS, YRC and Rotaract, some student’s join NSS just for experience and few of them join for Certification.
• Researcher has also suggested various ways for improvement of performance of NSS, YRC and Rotaract units.
